East Villagers are kindly asking Douglas Steiner to consider helping out the Mary Help of Christians Church when he builds a residential building on a neighboring lot. Steiner bought the property from the church for $41 million last week, and neighbors want him to include preservation of the church in his development plans. The developer, ironically, seems to be the preservationists' last hope as the LPC has previously turned down a request to landmark the building. [NYT Local]
