Airbnb Launches Official Platform to Help Sandy Victims

New, 2 comments

After Sandy hit, online housing marketplace Airbnb was one of the first sites to start organizing short-term listings for people displaced by Hurricane Sandy. Now, the site has partnered with the Mayor's office and launched an official, easier-to-use platform offering free housing for Sandy victims. The site also makes it easier for homeowners to list their apartments, and the entire process?for both renters and hosts?is free. Airbnb will provide its usual customer service and host insurance.

Since Sandy hit, Airbnb has seen 2,500 bookings in affected areas, and more than 4,000 guests have found shelter through the website. Currently, there are 114 free spaces listed for Sandy victims, ranging from shared rooms to entire homes.
