Decoded: The Most Well 'Proportioned' of Apartment Listings

New, 4 comments

Welcome back to The Brokerbabble Glossary, where we take a word or a turn of phrase that seems to show up in an unreasonable number of listings and decipher its true meaning. If you have any ideas for us, send them to the tipline. Today's word: Proportioned.

Usually the word "proportioned" is used simply to describe an apartment where the rooms are of roughly equal size, which, on its own, isn't particularly insidious. However, the inclusion of the word "generous" adds different connotations, implying that one or more of those rooms were given even more space than they reasonably deserved. In the case of the above listing, we think we can guess which room that is. A 114-square-foot maid's room? Why, it's even bigger than the dressing room!

Well, to be fair, it's not like they had much of a choice.

If this bedroom were any less generously proportioned you would need to access it via window because the living room would be in the hallway.

Okay, let's not get crazy here.
