Property owners affected by Hurricane Sandy might be, uh, upset by the contents of their January 15 property tax bills. Taxes are based on the "taxable status" of a building on January 5, and if the Finance Department hasn't recorded all of Sandy's damage by then, tax bills might not reflect changes. Or they might be based on the pre-Sandy value of the land, leaving it up to homeowners to negotiate changes to that value with the Tax Commission. [NYP; previously]
