A 20-story building at 1080 Amsterdam Avenue on the corner of 113th Street will be renovated into luxury apartments. The building is located just south of Columbia University, and it was formerly used as housing for the staff of St. Luke's Hospital Center. The Commercial Observer reports that Massey Knakal secured a 99-year lease on the property, which will be developed by SL Green and Stonehenge.
The 82,250-square-foot elevator building currently has 96 apartments and two commercial spaces. No word yet on how many units the renovation will create, but plans include window improvements, updates to the corridors and elevators, and upgraded heating and electrical systems. Construction is expected to take 24 months from start to finish.
