The listing of 122 East 70th Street for a paltry $14.9 million two years ago sent neighbors into a spiral of fear about declining local property values. Here's something that will make them feel better! The house?which ultimately sold in late 2010 for just $12.85 million?returned to market this year for $24.25 million, and it's now in contract. Since there was no pricechoppage, we assume the final price is somewhere in the vicinity of the asking price. The listing prose suggests the owners may have renovated the townhouse over the last two years, but, thankfully, they kept the massive alabaster fireplace carved by a Long Island City "master of stone." They do not appear to have kept the horn of plenty, with a "mixture of semi-precious stones," that used to be embedded in the kitchen floor. Their loss.
