Lower East Side One-Bedroom Fits a Lot Into 500 Square Feet

New, 16 comments

Welcome back to The Six Digit Club, in which we take a look at a newish-to-market listing priced under $1 million, because nice things sometimes come in small packages. Send nominations to the tipline.

Price: $619,000
Address: 139 Norfolk Street #2C
Size: 1BR, 1BA, 500 sq. ft.
Maintenance: $400

500 square feet might not seem like much (well, it isn't much) but it's apparently enough for at least one person and two reasonably sized dogs, if the listing photos for this place are to be believed. And who really needs space when you've got exposed brick, bamboo flooring, built in shelves, and a custom rolling barn door leading to the bedroom? Plus, with not much space comes very low maintenance costs. The current owner bought the apartment in 2007 for $257,500, and seems fair to say that he's more or less earned the $360K profit he's looking for with his renovations (which are all helpfully listed in the brokerbabble—we're not sure what "Insert Mortised Butt Hunges" are, but they sound...impressive?)
