"I will never understand why Chinatown isn't currently zoned for more highrise housing. It's super dense and crowded, but all the Chinese are leaving because every market-rate is super expensive, and there's barely any product. Chinatown is ideal for highrise market rate housing along major corridors, like Canal. You could hardly find a more perfect corridor for redevelopment. Tons of subway connections, lots of crappy taxpayer buildings, and huge demand. You could built 40-floor towers along Canal with no problem. The only way that Chinatown will keep a Chinese character is if you allow more development. Flushing and Sunset Park are already bigger and more important Chinatowns, largely because they have more housing options."?osito57 [How a Proposed Rezoning Might Transform Chinatown]
