Now that the Park Slope pinkstone is just a regular old brownstone again, the Lower East Side's Pink Giant, 57-67 Orchard Street, also known as the Ridley & Sons Department Store building, must have sensed a void in the market. It was just listed for $27 million, up only $2 million from its last (unsuccessful) listing almost four years ago. Last time around, the Pink Giant was touted as an investment/development opportunity, however, since then, the corner building (65-67 Orchard) has received landmark status, meaning that any changes to the exterior would have to go through the Landmarks Preservation Commission, so that sort of limits the whole development aspect. The neighborhood icon was nearly taken out a year ago by a two alarm fire.
