Curbed National's adaptive reuse column looks at the history of Curbed favorite 455 Central Park West. The 1887 building's first life was as one of the first cancer hospitals, funded by John Jacob Astor III and other wealthy benefactors. In 1956, the building began a nursing home, and the property was landmarked in 1976, two years after the nursing home's closure. Eventually that led us to this masterpiece.
