Our favorite castle imitation on the Upper West Side, 249 Central Park West, has spent a few months on the market at a PriceChopped $25 million. If that's still too high a price?or you want a turret try before you buy?the property is now also on the market as a rental. (Sadly, the rental option probably doesn't allow for the construction of that underground basketball court.) It's asking $50,000/month, which doesn't sound like such an overwhelming price for coffered ceilings, a paneled dining room, and "Tiffany era stained glass windows on every floor and soaring ceilings throughout." On the other hand, only three of the five floors have been renovated (the top two are still gutted), and developer William Noble spent only $37,000 to build the house, along with eight others, back in 1888.
