Edison Properties wants to build a public park on Dominick Street between Hudson and Varick Streets at the site of a current parking lot. The proposed park will include a host of amenities like shade trees, seating nooks, a firehouse-themed play area, and a 320-foot-high 230-unit private residential tower. Edison will require a zoning change before it can go ahead with that last feature. Current zoning rules don't allow residential development in the neighborhood, something that neighborhood property titan Trinity Real Estate is attempting to alter in exchange for height restrictions on buildings (which are currently unlimited).
