A study by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation showing that students attending schools with smaller yearly class sizes perform better than larger counterparts has educators at some of New York's biggest schools feel like there is a DOE target on their backs. We found only 67 schools in NYC have enrollments of more than 1,000 students, or an average annual class size of 250+. Listed in order of increasing frequency, NYC's largest schools are located in Staten Island (7), the Bronx (7), Manhattan (15), Brooklyn (17), and Queens (21). With New York real estate growing via things like downtown baby booms and relocations from the suburbs, one has to keep an eye on what's going on with schools in one's neighborhood to stay at the head of the property class.
