Our friends at Eater report that Chinatown institution South China Garden is closing, with a rumor floating around that the restaurant will be replaced by a new condo/hotel. One tipster suggests the condo/hotel in question is the 27-story project from Peter Poon Architects that was planned for the site back in 2009. A look through DOB permits provides no fresh intel, with the last permit for the 27-story project denied in 2010. That permit called for a 99-room hotel in the building's 12 middle stories and 63 apartments in the top 11 stories. We've reached out to the architect in search of a fresh rendering. In the meantime, anyone know more? Kindly direct any intel to the tipline or the comments.
