CB10 Does a 360 on Disabled

Community Board 10 denied a proposal to house seven developmentally disabled men on Lenox Avenue in the Savoy West building, a week after deciding to reconsider the board's existing policy that blocked further housing for "special needs" people in the neighborhood. Disabled advocates argued that the developmentally disabled men were being unfairly lumped into housing for people with drug problems and criminal records, and CB10's executive board said it would reconsider the proposal before putting it to a revote. The final vote against allowing the residential units at Savoy West was 16-to-11, with two absentions; the initial vote was 33-to-2 against, with three absentions. [DNAinfo; previously]
