An early morning fire swept through unit 4A at 815 Park Avenue in July, taking the life of an elderly resident, psychologist Howard Bogard, and subjecting his wife to severe smoke inhalation. During the dramatic NYFD response, firefighters hacked out windows in the apartment to vent smoke, and those windows remained boarded up over the summer as a reminder of the tragedy. Apparently someone was working behind that plywood to prepare the apartment for sale, replacing the damaged flooring with new herringboned white oak, repainting the apartment a neutral white, and installing brand new Thermopane windows. The original kitchen, in need of work, remains, but this restored pre-war gem is, remarkably, ready for new residents. The three-bed, two-bath unit is listed for $2.75M.
