CB3 Loosens Up With Wine, Beer

New, 2 comments

Community Board 3 is loosening up its seeming total opposition to new establishments selling booze within its borders, as long as it's just wine and beer and the restaurant plans on closing by midnight. The community board is drafting a letter to residents of the East Village and Lower East Side that floats the plan, the goal of which is to diversify businesses away from just late night bars that make the neighborhoods too raucous for some neighbors. An easing of the board's position might also preserve some of CB3's relevance in liquor license matters, because the relatively lenient State Liquor Authority often overrules the board's recommendations anyway.
