Look Up: Hanging Giant Rectangles at Tower 45

New, 2 comments

Visitors to Tower 45 at 120 West 45th Street will now have the opportunity to stand beneath 5 1/2 tons of light fixture, suspended 16 stories with approximately one mile of stainless steel cable. The pair of rectangles is one half of a recently completed installation at the building's outdoor atrium and indoor lobby. The outdoor rectangles hang 25' and 40' above the atrium's floor and weight 11,000 pounds. A smaller hanging light fixture/sculpture is showcased in the lobby of Tower 45, consisting of four nested rectangles. Both fixtures were engineered by Lukas Lighting and Shmerykowsky Consulting Engineers, and installed by ACC Construction with LB Architects.
