Scarlett Johansson's mother got part of her $130,000 non-refundable deposit refunded to her after backing out of purchasing a two bedroom apartment at The Strand on West 43rd. Melanie Sloan, who was fired as the starlet and newsworthy househunter's manager in 2009, said she couldn't afford the mortgage payments to the new place after losing her largest client and wanted her deposit back. The sellers said "We don't understand how she went from being rich to poor in two weeks...She acted in bad faith, and therefore our clients have the legal right to keep her down payment." The two parties negotiated a settlement where they split the deposit and both claim to be happy with the result.
