The Uranian Phalanstery and First New York Gnostic Lyceum Temple set off a preservation battle with its decision to sell 326 and 328 East 4th Street to developer Terrence Lowenberg. Preservationists lost their battle to landmark the buildings, and Lowenberg hired controversial architect Ramy Issac to top them with two new stories.
