Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, a good time to reflect on the imposing red brick walls that surround St. Patrick's Old Cathedral in Little Italy and date back to the 1830s. If the towering brick walls look like barricades against the surrounding neighborhood, it's because they were built as such, in order to protect the city's largest Catholic church at the time from torch-wielding nativists.
