The Post got a hold of Occupational Safety and Health Administration documents that found more than three times the permissible levels of silica in air samples taken underground at East 69th Street and Second Avenue. Silica is a human lung carcinogen, and three contractors were fined for the silica levels at the site and for failure to make sure that construction workers' face masks fit correctly. According to the MTA, silica falls the ground and couldn't be affecting the air quality at street level. [NYP]
