Mystery Buyer of High Line Townhouse Ready to Flip

New, 4 comments

The sellers of this 5BR 4-floor townhouse on West 22nd Street always seems to think it merits a $7 million-plus price tag. That's what the last owner listed it on the market at, before chopping it to $6.4 million, where it was purchased by the present owner in January 2011. Fourteen months later and 432 West 22nd is back on the market, now for $7.15 million. Judging from the broker photos now and from back in 2011, the 1843 townhouse has not just been denuded of its interior decoration style, but it barely looks lived in. Is that because the mystery buyer of 2011 really was Soprano's creator David Chase, who has been living in France as one tipster tells it? The current owner protected his or her anonymity by purchasing through a Los Angeles CPA in 2011, lending credence to the theory that a boldface Hollywood name was behind the buy. Can a famous person expect a price bump when selling their home by virtue of their stardom, even if they've never actually spent time there?
