London Developer Pays $25.4 Million for Plaza 'Attic'

New, 9 comments

The troubled Plaza penthouse in contract to Andrei Vavilov until a fraud lawsuit ended the deal finally went into contract in late February. That deal has now closed, and the Journal has some information on the sale. The buyer: one Christian Candy, a developer of London blockbuster One Hyde Park. He paid $25.4 million for the Plaza triplex, sources tell the Journal. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The apartment was supposed to sell to Vavilov in a combo deal for $53.5 million, returned to market last year asking $37.5 million, and got chopped to $33.5 million. Several buyers allegedly tried to make deals on the place for more than $30 million, but those deals fell apart, and Candy walked away with the, er, prize.
