No Public Listing Needed for Teddy Forstmann's $36M Home

New, 4 comments

Late billionaire Teddy Forstmann's home is on the market for $36 million; and although there is not a public listing available, viewings of the unit have been back to back since they began yesterday, according to the Post. The 4,000 square foot duplex is described as understatedly elegant, with the upper floor essentially one large master suite with a formal library/sitting room, and the lower level including two additional guest rooms. A wraparound terrace takes advantage of the building's location across from both Central Park and the Frick Museum. The building is most likely 2 East 70th Street, a 13 floor, 19 unit building built in 1927 by Rosario Candela. The average unit in the co-op is 3,000 square feet. Unsurprisingly, a recent survey of home sale prices listed East 70th between Fifth and Park Avenues as the most expensive block in Manhattan, with a median sale price of $8.9 million. Forstmann was a private equity icon of Wall Street, who was linked to a number of beautiful high profile women, most recently Padma Lakshmi, before he succumbed to complications from brain cancer.
