The winner of the 2012 eVolo Skyscraper Competition was a design to build moisture harvesting towers at the top of the world in the Himalayas to manage periodic droughts. It's a very cool idea, but we are more interested in new towers set in more traditional urban settings. The third place winner of the competition was called Monument to Civilization: Vertical Landfill for Metropolises, which grew from the fact-seed that if New Yorkers were to stack their annual garbage vertically, it would create a tower three times as high as the Empire State Building. The gallery above includes a number of other Honorable Mentions in the competition. Let us know what you think of them in the comments.
