When blogger Mitch Waxman of The Newtown Pentacle wrote up his photographs of a huge brass column foundation he found in Queens, he asked aloud to the online universe "Any ideas? Anyone out there recognize this object? My instinct and observations suggest it’s a product of either the late 19th or early 20th centuries, but frankly- I’m stumped." History buffs recognized that Waxman had found the missing half of a pair of lamps that once graced the entrance to the Queensboro Bridge between 59th and 60th Streets. [DNAinfo; NewtownPentacle]
