The Standard East Village Hotel facing Cooper Square on the Bowery wants to make some changes to its indoor/outdoor layout and is ready to bring its plans to Community Board 3 for approval, according to EV Grieve. The hotel operators would like to shift some of the public bar spaces around inside and outside of the hotel, and operate a sidewalk café on the Bowery that would be open until 2 a.m. The lobby garden would be opened onto East 5th Street and the Bowery, and documents [pdf] explain that the use of acoustic shields should be sufficient to allow that space to remain open until 2 a.m. The hotel also wants to close the 2,054 square foot outdoor bar space on the second floor, thus allowing the complete removal of the staircase that leads from street level on the Bowery up to that space. CB3 will meet to consider the matter next Monday, April 16 (item #15).
