New School Zig Zag Revealed on Fifth Avenue

New, 11 comments

The SOM design for The New School's dorm/library/performance building on 14th Street and Fifth Avenue involves transparent zig-zag staircases visible from the building's exterior, and they just made their first construction-phase appearance at the building site. There are pictures from multiple angles as the building begins to take shape at Andrew Fine's blog, A Fine Blog. Per an earlier description of the building, these zig-zags will eventually be "big ribbons of concave glass-enclosed staircases," and "a flow of stairs where students will be on view from the street below."
