Welcome back to The Brokerbabble Glossary, where we take a word or a turn of phrase that seems to show up in an unreasonable number of listings and decipher its true meaning. If you have any ideas for us, send them to the tipline. Today's word: Sunblasted.
Today is a historic day for The Brokerbabble Glossary. While previous entries in the glossary have all been real words that exist in the dictionary, this one is not. It is brokerbabble in the truest sense. "Sunblasted" combines two words: "sun" (a large ball of gas around which the earth is currently rotating) and "blasted," which describes something that has suffered a sudden and violent explosion. By combining the two words, brokers manage to conjure up the image of an apartment that has been ravaged by a gas explosion. And who wouldn't want to live in one of those?
Surprisingly (not surprisingly), this "word" is much more popular on Craigslist than in the classier listings of Streeteasy (where it appears in only 16 active listings). To be fair, though, most of the Craigslist listings are courtesy of a gentleman named Zach, who seems to have really cornered the sunblasted apartments market. Here is Zach, photoblasting an apartment he's going to list:
That apartment is also sunblasted, in case you were wondering.
In addition to being sunblasted, this apartment has quite a few lamps. Lampblasted!
