Columbia Street Store Becoming Luxury Apartment Building

New, 2 comments

The Sokol Bros. Furniture store on Columbia Street sold last fall for $3.3 million. The price tag and the buyer, Columbia Street Development LLC, sparked some speculation that a luxury residential conversion was in the property's future. Indeed, Lost City confirms that is the case, and the existing space, three former brownstones between President and Carroll streets, will get three additional stories, "making it easily the tallest, largest structure on Columbia Street." Lost City?who recently peeked inside the construction site for a glimpse at the store's old brick walls and fireplace?sees Columbia Street as the victim of "numerous calamities" over the last 50 years that have gradually killed off its businesses. We don't have any additional details yet on the conversion. Anyone know? Speak up, if you please.
