The new stack of Fairfield Inn & Suites, recently topped out at 325 West 33rd Street near Penn Station, is getting a grid of glass to go with its rectilinear frame. This 22-story box is a far cry from the crazy fantasy that was floating around after the old Glad Tidings Tabernacle that was razed a few years back. It comes from OTO Development out of Spartanburg, SC, and this will be their first foray into the Manhattan hospitality market. The OTO website trumpets the 239 rooms along with the hotel's proximity to the Knicks' home court, but that's not all the Carolinians are crowing about.
Also noted by the OTO crew are the 20 foot ceilings that will be found in the Fairfield lobby and the rooftop bar "over 200’ above the street" with great views of downtown. That vantage point up top promises some other great views nearby, including the long-stalled glass chapeau planned for the new Moynihan Station right across 33rd Street and the gang of towers set to rise one block away at Manhattan West. And we can't leave out the uber-tower from Vornado at 15 Penn Plaza that might become the ultimate view killer sometime in the future. Chances are that none of those glassy goodies will be visible when this Fairfield opens in 2013.
