Welcome to the Dollhouse: One of Huguette Clark's Apts. Sold

If you were waiting for the price to come down any further on the $24 million 12th floor apartment that once belonged to Huguette Clark at 907 Fifth Avenue, you missed out. The 14-room time capsule with 100 feet of frontage along Fifth Avenue went into contract today. The 12th floor apartment (12W) was considered the nicest of Clark's holdings in the building, which went on the market after the 104-year-old copper heiress died last year. It spent less than a month up for sale with only private showings available before someone snapped it up today. $24 million may seem like a steal for 100 feet of Fifth Avenue frontage in a pre-war building, but Clark's apartments have sat largely unused for the last several decades (save for her doll collection) and apparently need a lot of work to bring the them up to modern-comfort standards.
It is believed that many of the rooms embellished with ornate moldings were designed at that time by French & Company in the Louis XVI style. The apartment stretches the full length of the Fifth Avenue facade of the building, offering over 100 feet of frontage on the Avenue and exceptional views of Central Park and the West Side skyline. Light streams through the nine oversized windows on the Fifth Avenue exposure. The magnificent 37 foot gallery features 11 foot ceilings, stone door surrounds, linen-fold panel doors and beautiful herringbone floors. From the corner master bedroom, one enjoys views over the model sailboat pond all the way north to the George Washington Bridge. While one needs to envision the apartment brought up to date for today's lifestyle, the bones are here for a unique and fabulous residence. Designed by J.E.R. Carpenter, built in 1915 and winner of the 1916 gold medal of the American Institute of Architects, 907 Fifth Avenue is an Italian palazzo style building with limestone facing. Its commanding location on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 72nd Street across from the entrance to Central Park is highly coveted.
