Turns out the 7 train will not be stopping in Secaucus, New Jersey. The proposed expansion of the 7 line probably won't happen "in our lifetime," MTA chair Joseph Lhota said this morning. (The MTA still supports a trans-Hudson Amtrak tunnel.) Why no subway to NJ? The MTA would have to construct train storage spaces across the river, the subway's current flat fare structure wouldn't work outside the city, and, of course, the project would cost more money the MTA doesn't have.
