The oculus that tops the Fulton Street Transit Center is getting its glass covering, because unlike Rome's Pantheon the new downtown subway station will not be open to the elements. A tipster sent in these photos of the panes partially covering the building's aerial opening. After lengthy delays and budget shortfalls, the Fulton Street Transit Center is reportedly more than 50% complete and expected to be finished by June 2014. After ten years of construction, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer weighed in last month and said that the project was a waste of resources, and that transit funds should be directed to building new lines rather than connecting existing ones.
