Check Out the Glass Eye of Fulton Street

New, 18 comments

The oculus that tops the Fulton Street Transit Center is getting its glass covering, because unlike Rome's Pantheon the new downtown subway station will not be open to the elements. A tipster sent in these photos of the panes partially covering the building's aerial opening. After lengthy delays and budget shortfalls, the Fulton Street Transit Center is reportedly more than 50% complete and expected to be finished by June 2014. After ten years of construction, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer weighed in last month and said that the project was a waste of resources, and that transit funds should be directed to building new lines rather than connecting existing ones.
