Earlier this month, Inwood residents were lamenting the fact that Columbia University had made such little progress on the promised 1.5 acre waterfront park, despite the speedy building of the new 47,000-square-foot sports complex, but it looks like the public space is finally moving forward. DNAinfo reports that Columbia received "preliminary approval" from the Public Design Commission on Monday, and they will break ground as soon as they have all the right permits. A spokeswoman said that the university expects the park to be "substantially complete in the fall of 2012," which doesn't really sound too promising.
