It took a while, but someone finally noticed that half of the CornellNYC Tech applied sciences program heading to Roosevelt Island is comprised of a partnership with Technion, aka The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, and they are throwing a boycott party over it. A meeting was held on Roosevelt Island Monday, organized by New Yorkers Against Cornell-Technion (NYACT) organization, whose mission statement reads,
The Technion is complicit in Israel’s violations of international law and the rights of Palestinians, specifically by designing military weapons and developing technologies that are used to drive Palestinians off their land, repress demonstrations for their rights, and carry out attacks against people in Lebanon, Gaza, and elsewhereThis makes us nostalgic for the great failed anti-hummus battle of Park Slope, when that Brooklyn neighborhood food co-op tried to ban Israeli foodstuffs from its shelves.
