It may have taken four decades to actually break ground on Roosevelt Island's FDR Four Freedoms Memorial Park, but thankfully construction is moving at a much faster pace. Architect Aaron Plewke, along with a few other individuals, recently got an early tour of the Louis Kahn-designed memorial, and his photos show the park's progress to be in line with the scheduled fall 2012 opening. The waterfront promenades are complete, the boxy bunker-like granite "room" looks just about done, and the trees are planted. Here we have seven images from Plewke's tour, but click through to his Flickr photostream for a bunch more.
