"I'm a real estate agent. I was in an apartment recently that had been occupied by a chain smoker for 20+ years (amazing he lived that long). The walls and ceiling were stained brown. It looked like there had been a fire (which in a way, there had). The stench was unbelievable. The place has to be torn out down to the studs. The hallway outside the unit reeked pretty badly too.
