Decoded: The Most 'Breathtaking' of Apartment Listings

New, 8 comments

Welcome back to The Brokerbabble Glossary, where we take a word or a turn of phrase that seems to show up in an unreasonable number of listings and decipher its true meaning. If you have any ideas for us, send them to the tipline. Today's word: Breathtaking.

The word 'breathtaking,' which shows up in almost five hundred listings on Streeteasy, is usually accompanied by the word 'views.' There's nothing that removes air from one's lungs like an aerial look at a bridge, or a park, or a river, or a group of buildings, or, apparently, pretty much anything in New York City. Take the above picture, for example. Those views of the Upper West Side? Breathtaking. The Upper West Side is a lot more opaque than we remembered.

You know, the Chrysler Building just ain't what it used to be.

Hey, everybody, great news! There's a new definition for breathtaking! Now it means "an excessively white apartment with unnecessary drapes."

Is Fort Tryon Park especially pollen-y or something?
