This almost beggars belief, but the Hotel Chelsea's plans for a rooftop addition could be rejected on the grounds that the building is already too big for its approved zoning. The historic hotel is currently five feet taller and more than 30,000 square feet larger than current law allows, something that has been moot for years since the building was constructed in the 1880s before the zoning went into effect.
