Rego Reno: See Offices Turn to Rentals in Central Queens

It was called LeFrak Tower when it held offices for white collar businesses like insurance companies and government agencies, but now it is called The Contour and it is filled with rental apartments in Rego Park, Queens. Out the windows one can make out the Manhattan skyline on the horizon (emphasis on horizon more than skyline), but the LeFrak family appears to have successfully converted a modernist (circa 1960) office building into residences in order to profit from a hot rental market. According to the Daily News, the LeFrak's have roots in Queens stretching back more than a century, when they purchased Queens land from the Astors. Post-conversion, apartments at The Contour all feature spacious layouts and washer/dryers. Studios start at $1,550 a month and 1BRs that are 800 square feet and larger start at $2,025 a month.
