The Times sat down for a chat with the residents of 280 Nevins Street, where artist Margaret Maugenest just won a court battle over the fact that she hadn't paid rent in nine years. Maugenest's fellow tenants did not withhold their own rent, but they joined her in maintaining the building when the landlord wouldn't. And Maugenest herself promises to begin paying rent again once her landlord starts fixing up the place. We won't hold our breath. [NYT; previously]
