Public Parks Gone Private

New, 4 comments

It's no surprise that parks advocates don't want corporations to sponsor their open spaces; Upper West Siders essentially lost Damrosch Park when the city signed a 10-year agreement with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week allowing the event the run of the park. For 10 months out of the year (Big Apple Circus also happens in the park), the space is unusable for neighbors. CB7 voted to oust Fashion Week, and residents are even considering a lawsuit.
