The Cyclone Turns 85; New Storm King on Governors Island

We're closing up shop early this afternoon. Happy Friday, and we'll be back with weekend posts bright and early tomorrow!

CONEY ISLAND?New York's most famous roller coaster is celebrating its 85th birthday on June 30. Considered the "father of America’s roller-coaster revolution," the Cyclone debuted in 1927, and to pay homage to this date, rides will cost only 25 cents for the first 85 minutes of the anniversary event. That's quite a deal considering that today a single ride will set you back $8! [Curbedwire Inbox; official]

GOVERNORS ISLAND?For a second summer, Mark di Suvero's sculptures will be on view at Governors Island, courtesy the Storm King Art Center. In addition to the 11 steel sculptures presented last year, a new towering di Suvero work called "Dreamcatcher" has been installed at Picnic Point. Hop on the free ferry and see them this weekend.
