Liquor License approval at the Barclays Center seemed to be a slam dunk not too long ago, but now it's turning out to be one of those slam dunks where the ball hits the back of the rim and bounces out to mid-court. The trouble started when it was announced that Jay-Z will be opening a 40/40 Club in the center, and that the 40/40 Club would have bottle service. That was when the previously silent Community Board 8 sprung into action. "If you have seen some sports fans and concertgoers once they leave an arena, you can imagine how crazy how it might be,” said one resident. CB8 unanimously agreed to ask the State Liquor Authority (SLA) to mandate an earlier cutoff time for alcohol sales. As it stands now, sales will have to end at 2 am, but CB8 is lobbying for a much earlier 10 pm. The SLA will make its decision at a public hearing on June 20.
