Given that performance artist Marina Abramovic paid just $1.5 million for her loft at 70 Grand Street a decade ago, she seemed likely to make money on the resale when she listed her place for $3.495 million. And indeed she has! She's sold the apartment for $3.2 million, according to public records spotted by The Real Deal. The buyer is Melissa Ormond of Madison Square Garden Entertainment. We imagine that Abramovic was intimidating to sit across from at the closing table.
The building has a long artsy pedigree?it was once owned by artist George Maciunas, who would buy Soho buildings and rent some of them to artists as live-work space. Abramovic had her 1BR unit renovated by architect Dennis Wedlick, and there's the potential for further renovation?the listing included a floorplan for possible conversion to a 2BR.
