LES Girls Club Reveals Its Facade, Almost Ready to Open

New, 5 comments

The scaffolding has come down and the sidewalk bridge has been removed—it looks like the Lower East Side Girls Club is almost ready to christen its new home on Avenue D. Plans for the 30,000-square-foot development, which has entrances on the avenue and East 7th and 8th Streets, were revealed back in April 2009, and construction began in October 2010. EV Grieve has a few shots of the fully-revealed facade, and the HPD recently posted some interior pictures from a construction tour on Facebook. The 12-story building will house 78 affordable and rent-stabilized units, street-level retail space, and a community center, which will have a podcast station in an airstream trailer, a planetarium, classrooms, a wellness center, media center, and yoga, art, and dance studios. Plus, the club's award-winning bakery is also getting a new space, and there will be a green roof on the third floor where the girls will grow herbs and flowers for the shop.

We've been a fan of the building since the beginning, so we're happy to see it's almost complete.
