Cornerspotted: Once a Shankman's, Now an Electronics Store

This week's Tudor-style building threw a lot of people off because when people see Tudor their minds immediately go to Queens and neighborhoods like Kew Gardens. This building is actually in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, though, at the corner of Russell Street and Nassau Avenue across from Msgr. McGolrick Park. The shot was of Shankman's Department Store in 1958, which appears to have taken up the ground floor of a much more attractive building. The Tudor has been trimmed, the roofline altered, and Shankman's is now an electronics repair shop—probably another business not long for the neighborhood.

The best clue to indicate where this building was is the bar across the street, which still retains its Tudor style:
