A few very rich New Yorkers are lucky enough to have private pools in their apartments and townhouses, and coveting those folks' pools is a favorite pastime of ours. Curbed intern Arabella Watters sifted through our archives to find some of the best on-the-market private pools we've covered and figure out where they are in their quest for buyers. Some of them are still for sale, but the cost is much higher than a trip to a Williamsburg hotel. Here now, in no particular order, an aquatic status check:
1) Address: 232 East 63rd Street
Original price: $27 million
Current price: $21 million
Status: Still on the market
The Skinny: At 11,400 square feet, the teal tile-lined pool and Jacuzzi aren’t the only attraction at this Upper East Side mansion. There's more grown-up fun in store: movie theater, billiard room, cigar room, and rooftop.
2) Address: 51 Walker Street #TH1
Original price: $5,695,000 million
Most recent price: $4.95 million
Status: In contract
The Skinny: The swimming area has a jacuzzi, but it's also first floor territory. However, that didn’t stop some lucky (or unlucky) buyer from snapping up the poorly-lit, three-bedroom, three-bathroom 3,200-square-foot condo. The rooms are notably large and lined in wood, so that’s a plus.
3) Address: 51 West 83rd Street
Original Price: $4.3 million
Status: Off the market
The Skinny: From the outside, Turkish millionaire Ragip Ersin Akarlilar’s home looks like any other perfectly staid, classically beautiful Upper West Side townhouse. Take a peak around the back of the 1894 row house and?well. Akarlilar’s plans for an 8’x57.5’ pool and pool house were approved by the LPC last year, and despite arguments from his neighbors, how could he not go through with it?
4) Address: 232 West 15th Street
Original Price: $10,995,000
Most recent price: $9,950,000
Status: Still on the market
The Skinny: This 15-room townhouse has a south-facing garden, and, as we might have mentioned a time or two, a pool in the middle of the living room. Bask in your coolness if you snap this one up, or rather bask in the light from the solarium above the private pool.
5) Address: 45 East 74th Street
Original price: $33 million
Most recent price: $33 million
Status: Still on the market
The Skinny: This townhouse tries for a Renaissance style "and-crafted bronze and leather banisters, Italian marble facade imported from Italy, and honed mill work panels," among many other features. (And there's the terrace spa for a "midnight starlit soak," of course.) So why hasn't anyone bought it?
6) Address: 214 Lafayette Street
Original price: $100,000/month
Most recent price: $100,000/month
Status: Still on the market
The Skinny: This property has been on the market since December?but maybe it'll meet with better luck now that it's swimmin' season. The pool was the setting for the 2008 Beyonce music video "Halo."
